China is a country of contrasts, where centuries-old temples and traditions sit alongside rapidly changing cities and modern life. As a Project Trust Volunteer, you’ll experience everyday China through your school and community, building relationships that take you far beyond the usual visitor experience.

Placement Types

Immersive Placement

Spend 10–12 months living and volunteering in China, giving yourself the time to settle into your school, build relationships and experience everyday life.
You’ll develop your confidence and independence, begin learning Mandarin and gain a much deeper understanding of Chinese culture as your placement progresses.

What can you do?

TESOL – Teaching English

Become part of school life, helping students develop their confidence in spoken English across a range of ages.

You’ll have the freedom to bring creativity, conversation and fun into your lessons, giving students an opportunity to practise their English in a relaxed and engaging environment.

What does life as a Volunteer look like?

FOOD

Food is a huge part of life in China, and every region has its own flavours, dishes and specialities to discover.
From sharing meals with colleagues to exploring local restaurants and trying something completely new, food is a brilliant way to experience Chinese culture and connect with the people around you

Living

Volunteers generally live on or close to their school campus, in comfortable accommodation with facilities such as a bathroom and kitchenette.

Living alongside your school community means you’ll get to know students and colleagues beyond the classroom and quickly become part of everyday school life.

TRAVEL

China’s enormous size means there is an incredible amount to explore, from vast cities and mountain landscapes to rural villages and historic temples.
Good transport connections make weekend adventures possible too, whether you’re hiking to a local temple, exploring a nearby city or discovering somewhere completely new.

A Timeline of your Placement

Immersive Placement

Towards the beginning of July you will attend our 4 day residential training course in Scotland. It’s a brilliant time to get to know other Volunteers and get prepared for your placement
Your Visas will be obtained around a month before departure.
Departure time! You will depart with your country group mid September
You’ll return from your placement in July
Our Debriefing course is held toward the end of August and is a fantastic time to reflect on your placement and share memories with other Volunteers.
