Volunteer Fundraising

Project Trust’s staff and Returned Volunteer Mentors have supported over 8000 young people to achieve their fundraising target over the past fifty years.

Fundraising to support your volunteering placement is an important part of your Project Trust experience and an opportunity to learn and develop skills for life. 

Volunteer fundraising donations are an essential part of our charitable income and are what enables us to support your volunteering experience

  • What’s Included
    • Return flights from London to the country where your placement is based
    • Comprehensive travel medical insurance, including 24-hour emergency response
    • Accommodation and a living allowance
    • A four-day residential Training Course
    • A two-day residential Debriefing Course
    • UK-based support by the Project Trust team before and during your placement
    • 24-hour Project Trust emergency support
    • Local support by a Project Trust Country Representative
    • Support with Visa and immigration applications (Visas, permits, ID cards, etc)

    What’s NOT Included

    • Vaccinations and anti-malarial tablets
    • Pre-departure health screening with HealthLink360 (£80) and the cost of any specialist follow up
    • Basic Disclosure application fee (£25)
    • personal belongings insurance, if required
    • An insurance excess of £300 for each claim
    • Any costs relating to personal travel for holidays, etc (this will vary according to the country and your travel plans)
    • Visa and immigration costs (£150) (Visas, permits, ID cards, etc)
  • Fundraising Support

    Project Trust prides itself on having a dedicated Fundraising Support Team, supporting you to become a confident fundraiser. 

    During the Selection Course you will discover how to fundraise strategically, where to begin and how to make the most of support available.

    Once you have been offered a place, you will be assigned a Volunteer Fundraising Support Officer who will provide tailored ideas, advice and support.  You will also receive fundraising newsletters highlighting key dates and further opportunities.

    We recognise that fundraising at university ca be challenging. You will receive clear advice support with your university fundraising journey, including university-specific funding opportunities and advice on how to use your university network to reach your target.

  • Mentor Scheme

    You will have the option to be matched with a Fundraising Mentor. Mentors are Returned Volunteers who have been away with Project Trust after completing their own fundraising journey. Your Mentor will be available to listen, advise, encourage and share guidance with you on your fundraising efforts for your placement with Project Trust.

  • Access Fund

    We are committed to ensuring that our volunteering opportunities are accessible to young people of all backgrounds. An Access Fund bursary is available to those who fit the criteria for financial support:

    • Your household income for parents/guardians is below £35,000 (NET)
    • Your parents/guardians receive Income Support or Universal Credit
    • Your parents/guardians are disabled and get Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) or Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
    • You receive an Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA – applicable in Scotland) and/or you are entitled to free school meals
    • You are in care or a care leaver
    • You are living in one of the country’s most deprived areas (defined by Index of Multiple Deprivation)
    • You are living with a disability (Volunteer OR immediate family member has a disability)

    Volunteers who have gone through the Selection process are able to apply using our digital application form.

    Our bursary is generously funded by the Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust, and enables us to support Volunteers with uncapped amounts towards their fundraising target, depending on the number of awards applied for in each cohort. 

Fundraising Targets

  • The fundraising target for the 12-month international placement is £7,450 
  • The fundraising target for the 8-month international placement is £6,850
