Good Shepherd Bilingual School
Your will be teaching at a public bilingual school in Camasca, a small town nestled in the Itibu mountains of the Lempira region.
Your Project
Located in Camasca, a 1.5 hour drive from the city of La Esperanza, Good Shepherd Bilingual School was set up in 2012 and is the first public bilingual school in Honduras. The school is funded by a charity called Shoulder to Shoulder which has supported over 70,000 Hondurans to access healthcare and education.
Your main responsibility will be to teach at the primary school. The school is small with just over 100 students and 7 teachers. You will be teaching a mixture of ages from kindergarten to grade 6. The school aims to prepare children for successful careers. It provides hope for families who have scarce financial resources with scholarships for a free bilingual education. The school is well-resourced compared to other public Honduran schools and students are excited to learn English.
As well as teaching you will have the opportunity to get involved in extra-curricular activities such as football, dance, reading club, and spelling bees. In addition ‘Shoulder to Shoulder’ funds a local robotics team. Through this team, students have put Camasca on the map by competing in international competitions in Washington DC and Dubai. You will have the opportunity to get involved in the project as well as supporting the older students improve their English. ‘Shoulder to Shoulder’ also operate a regional STEM Centre in Camasca that is relatively well-equipped with modern technology such as computers and 3D printers.
