You will be teaching at Agorweme MA Basic School, located between Akatsi and Abor in the Volta region of Ghana.
Your Project
You will be teaching English as well as other subjects like Maths, ICT, Creative Arts, and running extra-curricular clubs. This primary school has limited facilities, but an active and interested staff team. You will need to use your initiative and energy to support the learning of the students in your community.
With the primary school, taking on classes can mean quite a variety of things, depending on your interest and the needs of the students. Basic literacy is a challenge for the younger students, with both English and Ewe spoken in the classroom. This year Volunteers have run reading clubs to assist children who are struggling at school. Extracurricular activities are strongly encouraged.
This project demands dedication, initiative and creativity. Ultimately it will be up to you to fill your timetable full of lessons and activities.
Accommodation
Although Agorvemu is not far from the towns of Akatsi and Abor, the village feels rural and traditional. The 2-room house you will share is on the compound of the village chief, you will be cooking on the porch and bucket washing. You will have access to clean water and electricity is generally available.
Your living allowance is provided by Project Trust and will cover your daily living costs
