Miqueas 6.8

You will be volunteering at Miqueas 6.8, a unique project that gives you the opportunity to live and work in a family home for children in the village of La Colorada, 15km from the larger town of El Progresso.

Your Project

Your role will be varied but will involve teaching, tutoring and running activities with all of the children. You will assist in the provision of therapeutic activities for children with special needs and youโ€™ll help to organise and maintain a storage area with a range of resources and donations that the home receives. Over the years that Project Trust has worked with Miqueas, the role of the volunteer has evolved as the children get older.
Your responsibilities will revolve around education, fostering a strong teacher-student bond with the children, and striving to ensure they reach their full potential academically.

Youโ€™ll help the children in learning to read and completing homework and create activities that are tailored to each child. Youโ€™ll get to know them well and youโ€™ll need to be a positive role model to them, helping them to grow into responsible, confident and positive individuals, within the Honduran culture. There may be many other things you are asked to do โ€“ your primary role as a volunteer is to help out in anything that might be beneficial to the Home and the children. There will be a lot of opportunities for activities such as music, art, drama and sport.

Volunteers in recent years have also taught English at a local primary school.

Volunteering at Miqueas 6.8 is a rewarding experience but requires that you work hard, independently and efficiently. The Home is an established, functioning family home and it is important that you carefully follow the directions of Jacob and Melody. You need to be sensitive to the family environment and respect the decisions made by the Home. You will have to be creative in your role, patient and energetic in your work with younger children.

As Miqueas 6.8 is a Christian organisation, you are required to be sympathetic to the aims and objectives of the organisation. You do not need to be a practicing Christian but you will be required to respect Christian values.

Accommodation

You will live in an apartment attached to the main home and will share a bedroom with your partner. The Volunteer accommodation at Miqueas is spacious and newly refurbished with a kitchen and living area. There may well be other volunteers or visitors sharing the living space at certain times of the year.
