Mayamiko

You will be working at Mayamiko, a child care centre committed to providing a safe haven for some of the most vulnerable children in Blantyre, Malawi.

Your Project

As an emergency centre established in 2023, Mayamiko work closely with the Ministry of Social Welfare to ensure that every child who comes through their door receives the care and attention they deserve.

The facilities at Mayamiko are primarily geared towards younger children, providing them with a loving and structured home where their immediate needs are met. However, the support doesn’t stop there, they also work diligently to assist older children with reintegration into their communities, helping them to reconnect with their families or find new paths forward in life. The holistic approach ensures that each child, regardless of their age, is given the tools and opportunities they need to build a brighter future. Currently, they support 51 children, offering them a nurturing environment where they can grow, learn, and thrive.

This is an exciting and rewarding project where your time and energy can have a real impact, not only on the daily life of the home, but on the futures of the young people who live there. 

As a Volunteer you will play a crucial role in the social and educational development of the children. You will contribute significantly to improving English language skills and offer a wide range of activities, including games, trips, homework assistance, and behaviour workshops. Beyond these tasks, you will provide general support and guidance, helping to create a nurturing and enriching environment.

Accommodation

You will onsite at the children’s home. You and your partner will share a small room. You will also have a bathroom with a shower and toilet as well as a small kitchen.  

Your living allowance provided by Project Trust will cover your daily living costs.
