Malawi Visa and Travel
General
You will travel together as a country group from a London airport during the few weeks of January. We will confirm the exact details of your flight and send you the e-ticket once it has been booked. It is your responsibility to get yourself to the airport in plenty of time for your international flight. We will arrange for your country group to meet at a designated time and place at the airport on the day of travel. The process will be explained during Training and two of the group will act as our Travel Coordinators, to be the points of contact with Project Trust should there be any issues during travel.
Luggage
It is important to pack as lightly as possible. You need to be able to carry all your luggage by yourself. Everything will need to fit in to a maximum of one checked bag (a large rucksac weighing a maximum of 23kg) and one carry-on cabin bag. It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet all airline requirements, and you will be responsible for paying any excess baggage.
Visa and immigration costs
The costs of Volunteers meeting the legal requirements for entry and long-term stay (visas, permits, etc.) vary considerably between the countries where Project Trust operates. To make this as fair as possible, we ask each Volunteer to make a payment to Project Trust as a contribution towards these costs. Payment for entry Visas made by Volunteers before departure from the UK will be included in this cost. More information on the cost will be confirmed shortly.
Visas / Permits
To enter Malawi, British passport holders are required to obtain a pre-departure e-visa before travelling. The e-visa application is completed through an online portal, and details of the application process will be sent to you separately after your training course. Please do not begin the application process until you receive these instructions.
If you are travelling on a non-British passport, visa requirements may differ depending on your nationality. We will provide further guidance as required.
During your stay, our Malawi Representative will assist you with any necessary visa extensions and Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) applications, to ensure you remain compliant with local immigration requirements for the duration of your placement.
