Educate

Educate is a grassroots NGO working to empower children and young people in Honduras through education..

Your Project

In rural areas where half of students leave school after 6th grade, Educate supports young people to continue their studies and grow as leaders in their families, schools, and communities.

Based in Trinidad town, Educate runs a Youth Centre, Municipal Library, and a network of rural school libraries. From the centre, they offer scholarships, mental health services, and weekly activities in art, sport, STEM, and media. Monthly workshops cover topics like health, relationships, and leadership. All programmes are youth-led, with scholarship students often becoming coordinators and facilitators.

Volunteers play a full role in daily operations—supporting programmes, teaching English to primary and secondary students, leading literacy initiatives, and helping with community events. While you may lead some activities (e.g., English classes), you’ll also support others, acting as both peer and role model for local youth.

Educate is not a school but a community organisation where young people work alongside each other as colleagues, mentors, and friends. Their members describe Educate as a family, and Volunteers are welcomed into that family, with many opportunities to contribute their own skills in a dynamic, close-knit team.
