Chumkriel

You will be volunteering at Chumkriel Language School in the Kampot Province in Cambodia.

Your Project

The school was founded over 20 years ago to provide education to local children, with a strong focus on English. Today, it serves 107 primary-aged children directly, while also supporting around 200 secondary students from the local state school with classes in IT, literacy/library skills, and life skills.

In addition, the school offers evening English classes for learners of all ages—including adults—running from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and enrolling about 600 students. The school has 14 full-time staff members for the daytime program and 12 part-time teachers for the evening sessions.

The campus is brick-built on its own grounds and includes basic sports areas, a kitchen garden, and space for extracurricular activities. It also runs half-day outreach classes for approximately 30 children of salt workers in the nearby salt fields, taught by one teacher and an assistant.

Volunteers are not allocated fixed classes but are expected to be flexible and support a wide variety of activities. These may include assisting teachers in the classroom, helping children in English lessons, running the library, supporting arts and sports activities, gardening, or working with computers. Volunteers also participate in the evening English classes. Sports skills are especially welcome, particularly for PE and fitness exercises, as well as experience in handicrafts, health education, or running a book club.

This placement is well-suited to volunteers who are adaptable, creative, and eager to engage with children and young people across many different activities.

Accommodation

You will be living independently with your project partner and cooking for yourself. Project Trust will provide a monthly allowance to cover your food and living expenses.
