Ghana Visa & Travel

General

You will travel together as a country group from a London airport during the second week in September. We will confirm the exact details of your flight and send you the eticket once it has been booked. It is your responsibility to get yourself to the airport in plenty of time for your international flight. We will arrange for your country group to meet at a designated time and place at the airport on the day of travel. The process will be explained during Training and two of the group will act as our Travel Coordinators, to be the points of contact with Project Trust should there be any issues during travel.

Luggage

It is important to pack as lightly as possible. You need to be able to carry all your luggage by yourself. Everything will need to fit into a maximum of one checked bag (a large rucksac weighing a maximum of 23kg) and one carry-on cabin bag. It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet all airline requirements, and you will be responsible for paying any excess baggage.

Visa and immigration costs

The costs of Volunteers meeting the legal requirements for entry and long-term stay (visas, permits, etc.) vary considerably between the countries where Project Trust operates. To make this as fair as possible, we ask each Volunteer to make a payment of £150 to Project Trust as a contribution towards these costs. Payment for entry Visas made by Volunteers before departure from the UK will be included in this cost. e.g. A Volunteer paying £50 for a Visa before departure will only be asked to make a payment of £100 to Project Trust, to make up the total of £150.

Visas / Permits

In order to travel to Ghana you will need to obtain a Visa before departure. This involves sending your passport, a completed application form and a fee to the Ghana High Commission in London. You will need to allow 15 working days to complete this process.

You are due to depart for Ghana early to mid September, so please let us know if you are due to travel abroad in August so you can apply for your entry visa in plenty of time. Once you are in Ghana, you will apply a visa extension. This is done at the local immigration office every three months by our Ghana Representative, more detail will be explained on Training.
