Your Project

Mapulaca is a small town in the foothills of the El Salvadoran border, a stones throw from the Lempa River. The surrounding area of is stunning and the journey from San Marcos, the nearest town (75km away), as you weave through the mountains and hills, is truly spectacular.

You will be teaching basic English at Manuel Banilla Mixed School, between you and your partner you will teach each of the grades (ages 4-11). There is also the opportunity to teach at the local secondary school on afternoons. Some members of the community and teachers speak a little English however, the English Programme at the school is very limited and relies heavily on what Project Trust Volunteers can provide. Alongside your partner and other teachers, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of this English Programme.

You will also be expected to set up extracurricular activities for the school and community, such as art and crafts, music, drama, debating, and sports depending on your skills and experiences.

Accommodation

You will be living with a host family close to the school. You will share a bedroom with your project partner and have access to everything you need from cooking facilities to running water and electricity. Living in a small town will give you a unique opportunity to fully immerse yourself in a community and improve your Spanish.

Your living allowance provided by Project Trust will cover your daily living costs.
