You will be supporting children and young people at BAHASI (Bangwe HIV/AIDS Self-Help Initiative) on the outskirts of Blantyre in Southern Malawi.
Your Project
Established in 2004, BAHASI is an NGO that supports vulnerable groups who have been affected by HIV/AIDS. The organisation currently houses around 40 children between the ages of 2-17 providing them with a home and education.
No two days at BAHASI are ever the same. Your schedule will be flexible, but there will always be ways to get involved. You will play a key role in the day-to-day life of the home, whether that’s leading activities, helping with homework, or simply being a positive role model.
Keeping up with the younger kids means bringing plenty of energy and creativity! Previous Volunteers have enjoyed organising games, quiz nights, fashion shows, and impromptu dance parties before bed.
You’ll also help shape and support the wider programmes at BAHASI, such as home-based care, swimming lessons, and a cooking programme. In addition, you’ll be responsible for updating the website and creating a monthly newsletter to keep the donors connected with everything happening at the home. You’ll also contribute to running fundraising campaigns that help fund special trips and days out for the children.
This is an exciting and rewarding project where your time and energy can have a real impact, not only on the daily life of the home, but on the futures of the young people who live there.
Accommodation
You will live in an annex to the main building of the children’s home. You and your partner will share a small room. You will also have a bathroom with a shower and toilet as well as a small kitchen.
Your living allowance provided by Project Trust will cover your daily living costs.
