Japan Visa & Travel

General

You will travel together as a country group from a London airport, and it is your responsibility to get yourself to the airport in plenty of time for your international flight. We will send you details of your flight and your e-tickets as soon as it is confirmed. You are likely to be leaving early to mid-September. We will arrange for your country group to meet at a designated time and place at the airport on the day of travel. The process will be explained during Training and two of the group will act as our Travel Coordinators, to be the points of contact with Project Trust should there be any issues during travel.

Luggage

It is important to pack as lightly as possible. You need to be able to carry all your luggage by yourself. Everything will need to fit in to a maximum of one checked bag (a large rucksac weighing a maximum of 23kg) and one carry-on cabin bag. It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet all airline requirements, and you will be responsible for paying any excess baggage.

Visa and immigration costs

The costs of Volunteers meeting the legal requirements for entry and long-term stay  (visas, permits, etc.) vary considerably between the countries where Project Trust operates. To make this as fair as possible, we ask each Volunteer to make a payment of £150 to Project Trust as a contribution towards these costs. Payment for entry Visas made by Volunteers before departure from the UK will be included in this cost. e.g. A Volunteer paying £50 for a Visa before departure will only be asked to make a payment of £100 to Project Trust, to make up the total of £150.

Visas / Permits

In order to travel to Japan, you will need to obtain a Volunteer Visa before departure. This involves attending an in-person appointment in either the Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh or the Embassy of Japan in London depending on your where you live.

We will email you the details of this process separately and outline Please do not begin any application process until further instructed by Project Trust.
