Chandrubeksa Anusorn School

You will be teaching English at a secondary school in Kaset Wisai just south of Roi Et. Your project will mainly focus on supporting the students to improve their English but there are lots of opportunities to get involved in extracurricular activities.

Your Project

Kaset Wisai is a good size town with a friendly feel. The area is rich in history and is home to some beautiful temples. This region of Thailand is known as Isaan and it has its own unique culture, language and identity within Thailand. Isaan is a poorer region of Thailand and has strong influences from neighbouring Laos, which is just on the other side of the Mekong River. The Isaan language is closer to Laos than Bangkok Thai and there is a multitude of influences from the many different ethnic groups that have populated the land over time. This all makes living here an extremely interesting experience.

Chandrubeksa Anusorn is a large secondary school with a population of over 2100 students and more than 100 teachers. You will be teaching students from grades 7-12 and aged from 12-18. You will be a full member of the Foreign Languages department, but with specific responsibility for conversational English. This is a new and exciting project, the staff are very friendly and willing to help, should you need any assistance in lesson preparation. You will also have the opportunity to get involved in extracurricular activities such as the school band, tennis, golf, football and swimming.

Your accommodation will be a short cycle ride from the school. It consists of a two-bedroom house including a kitchen and bathroom. Volunteers enjoy trying Thai cuisine and will often eat lunch at the school canteen or go out for dinner at local restaurants or night markets. They also have the amenities to cook for themselves at home. You also have access to bicycles to be able to explore the area and visit the markets and temples.

Your living allowance provided by Project Trust will cover your daily living costs.
