You will be teaching English in Tomalá, a small rural town in the foothills of Lempira in the South of Honduras.
Tomalá is a small town up in the foothills of the El Salvadoran border. The surrounding area of Tomalá is stunning and the journey from San Marcos, the nearest town (45km away), as you weave up through the mountains and hills, is truly spectacular.
You will teach Basic English in the local Primary School and Kindergarten and will also be involved in teaching conversational English to students in the High School. Some members of the community and teachers speak a little English however, there is currently no English Programme at the school, other than what Project Trust Volunteers can provide. Alongside your partner and other teachers, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of this English Programme.
You will also be expected to set up extracurricular activities for the school and community, such as art and crafts, music, drama, debating, and sports depending on your skills and experiences.
You will be living in a house close to both of the schools. You will either be living with a host family or independently with your project partner. You will have everything you need from cooking facilities to running water and electricity. Living in a small town will give you a unique opportunity to fully immerse yourself into a community and improve your Spanish.
Your living allowance provided by Project Trust will cover your daily living costs.
