Tomalá

You will be teaching English in Tomalá, a small rural town in the foothills of Lempira in the South of Honduras.

Your Project

Tomalá is a small town up in the foothills of the El Salvadoran border. The surrounding area of Tomalá is stunning and the journey from San Marcos, the nearest town (45km away), as you weave up through the mountains and hills, is truly spectacular.

You will teach Basic English in the local Primary School and Kindergarten and will also be involved in teaching conversational English to students in the High School. There is also the opportunity to teach basic English in the schools of the local aldeas. Some members of the community and teachers speak a little English however, the English Programme at the school is very limited and relies heavily on what Project Trust Volunteers can provide. Alongside your partner and other teachers, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of this English Programme.

You will also be expected to set up extracurricular activities for the school and community, such as art and crafts, music, drama, debating, and sports depending on your skills and experiences.

Accommodation

You will be living in a house close to both of the schools. You will either be living with a host family or independently with your project partner. Usually you will be with a host family, where you will share a bedroom and have access to everything you need from cooking facilities to running water and electricity. Living in a small town will give you a unique opportunity to fully immerse yourself in a community and improve your Spanish.

Your living allowance provided by Project Trust will cover your daily living costs.
