Khon Kaen

You will be teaching English in multiple schools across Khon Kaen. Khon Kaen is one of the four big cities in the Isaan region and lies in the Northeast of Thailand.

Your Project

Khon Kaen is a relatively large city and is one of the fastest-growing areas of Thailand. It is located in the heart of the Isaan region. The Isaan region has its own unique culture, language and identity within the country. It has strong influences from neighbouring countries and the language is closer to Laos than Bangkok Thai.

Volunteers will be working across different schools teaching a range of ages with the focus on improving the students English. Class sizes range but you will usually be teaching a group of around 30 students. You will be seen as a valuable resource for the community. There are opportunities to teach extracurricular activities and become involved with English clubs and camps. In addition, you may be expected to help improve your fellow teachers’ English and become involved with secondary projects. Volunteers in the past have learnt Thai dancing and weaving with local women. You will also have a generous holiday period, both to explore the country and also to become immersed in Thai life in other ways.

This is a new and exciting project so there will be plenty of scope to try out new ideas and be creative in your teaching methods.

We will provide more details about your specific project during training in July.
