Yamikani Foundation, Blantyre District

You will be volunteering with young children at Yamikani Foundation, an orphanage located near the town of Limbe in southern Malawi.

Your Project

Yamikani House is an orphanage that currently homes between 20-25 children. Their goal is to provide a loving nurturing home, in which children develop to their fullest potential. They support children to become healthy, independent and contributing members of their community.

Your main role will be to teach at the on-site nursery. Class sizes vary but you will usually be teaching 45-60 students aged 3-6. You will need to be creative to come up with fun lessons to teach the kids basic English. Each week you will choose a topic such as colours, shapes, numbers and animals.

As well as teaching in the nursery you will also be responsible for helping the children living at Yamikani. You will support them with their homework as well as running fun games and activities to keep them busy. Volunteers also get involved in organising trips often to the local swimming pool or the annual trip to Cape McClear.

You and your partner will be living on-site at the orphanage. Your accommodation will have one bedroom that you will both share as well as a bathroom and kitchen.

Your living allowance provided by Project Trust will cover your daily living costs.
