International Women's Day

#BeBoldforChange

The above statement is the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day – a phrase which holds true to many issues around the world and holds particular relevance to International Women’s day. Today is a day to reflect on the significant progress that has been made in relation to equality for women and to celebrate those who have played a prominent role in the history of their countries and communities.

At Project Trust we want to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women from around the world but we also want to show our support for the women that are faced by inequality every day. Unequal rights, punishment and inequality are still the harsh reality for many women of the world. We need to show our solidarity and support and we need to ‘Be Bold For Change’.

To mark International Women’s Day we have asked our Volunteers: past and present, to tell us about women who inspire them, women who have had significant influences to them and women whom they admire every day. Throughout the day we will be posting videos about our ‘Women of the World’ and we want you to join in too. We want to celebrate all the women of the world and we want to show how important women are in today’s society so please join us and ‘Be Bold For Change’.

Ingrid Emerson, CEO of Project Trust

A message from Ingrid Emerson MBE, CEO of Project Trust:

‘I’m delighted to be adding my voice to International Women’s Day and pledge my support for the Global Fund for Women who work to ensure women and girls everywhere are strong, safe, powerful, and heard.

I am proud of Project Trust’s strong position when it comes to women’s equality….every day we work with inspirational young women from the UK who, in turn, work with incredibly inspirational women across the globe. Our Volunteers, through their overseas experiences and passion and understanding of different creeds and cultures, are instruments for change – making the global connections for social equality. There is no better time than now to support a growing number of young people from the UK to stand up for an equal, fair and just world.’

This International Women’s Day we asked Project Trust Volunteers and members of staff, past and present, to come together by filming a short video of themselves talking about an inspirational women they met in their community while overseas. Throughout the day we uploaded a video every half an hour, and it generated a fantastic response and allowed us to learn about the strong, fearless, ambitious and brave women across the world.

In case you missed it, we’ve put all the videos together for you to enjoy and look back on. Scroll down to hear all about how our Volunteers celebrated the women of the world on March 8th, 2017.
